Product description

Jagat Ram Lalka, a folk musician of Punjab, India, is both a singer and Tumbi (single stringed North Indian instrument) performer. His repertoire includes a variety of music that can be immediately recognized as ‘Punjabi’. This album features songs by Jagat Ram Lalka ranging from historical episodes such as that of Jaimal and Fatta, Pir Muradia and Veer Jodh to legendary love stories of Heer-Ranjha, Sassi-Punno, Mirza-Sahiba and Dhol-Sammi. The Algoza, Dholak, Ghada (metal pot), and Chimta are played but it is the wonderfully Punjabi notes of a detuned Tumbi that give the renditions their characteristic folk feel. Jagat Ram Lalka’s repertoire includes songs of valor, courage, love and spirituality. Many of his songs are ancient compositions passed down from generation to generation.
